TRIVIA: In 2014, Nicole Kidman said that the only time she has gone method and stayed in character throughout a shoot was during this production.

Nicole Kidman created the "trashy" look of Charlotte herself, as the budget lacked money for a make-up assistant. This was the first time Kidman did her own make-up on a film.

This movie received a fifteen minute standing ovation at the premiere Cannes Film Festival, which brought Lee Daniels and Zac Efron to tears.

Peter Dexter, author of the novel, dislikes the film.
