JUST FINISHED WATCHING: CANDY (2022)

JUST FINISHED WATCHING: CANDY (2022)

Candy Montgomery is a 1980s housewife and mother who did everything right - but when the pressure of conformity builds within her, her actions scream for just a bit of freedom. Until someone tells her to shush. With deadly results.

TRIVIA: Both Jessica Biel and Melanie Lynskey's husbands have roles in the series. Justin Timberlake and Jason Ritter play Police Officers.

When the series was first announced in Summer 2020, actress Elisabeth Moss was set to star as Candy Montgomery.

This is Melanie Lynskey's second foray into a work based on true crime. Her first film, Heavenly Creatures, was about the notorious Parker-Hulme murder in 1954.

Candy Montgomery's case also serves as the inspiration for the HBO event series Love and Death (2023), which will star Elizabeth Olsen as Candy and Lily Rabe as Betty Gore.

MY VERDICT: I wasn’t sure how to feel about this series. I felt like it was quite long considering the amount of detail it covered. There was a lot of nothing happening when all I really wanted to know was how the lead felt and why and you don’t get that at all which makes her seem like even more of a monster. I thought Melanie Lynskey was, as always, wonderful and her character was one of the saddest creatures I’ve ever seen. I thought the styling and art direction was great, everyone had wonderful outfits and hair and houses.
