FILM 2318: THE OLD GUARD (2020)

TRIVIA: The graphic novel that originated the film, The Old Guard, has four issues, so fans can expect this movie to have sequels. At least a second one is already in Netflix's pipeline, with signed contracts by the main characters.

The London riverside pub that features in the movie is the famous Prospect of Whitby, otherwise known as the Devil's Tavern. It remains one of the oldest pubs in London, with the site dating back to 1520, making this a fitting place for the main characters to meet in London.

According to Charlize Theron, she received the graphic novel for the first time while shooting Atomic Blonde (2017) and after reading the first pages she felt that the story was interesting enough for a movie project.

After screen testing Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli to check their chemistry together, Charlize Theron and Greg Rucka were certain that the monologue Joe delivers about Nicky "not being his boyfriend" would be done honestly. According to Theron "Marwan's performance felt so guttural, it came from such a deep place within him. It was undeniable he just sold it, really feeling that way".

Having been viewed by over 70 million households in its first month, this is one of Netflix's most successful releases.
