FILM 2305: WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S (1989)

FILM 2305: WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S (1989)

TRIVIA: This was considered as a possible vehicle for Corey Haim and Corey Feldman early in production, before deciding in making the leads older.

The film's director, Ted Kotcheff, made a cameo as Richard's father (the man who comes out in his underwear and blows his cover).

Richard suggests they go to Jones Beach with all the syringes. This is probably in reference to the infamous "Syringe Tide" in 1987-1988 when medical waste washed up on several beaches in New York/New Jersey, costing massive losses in tourist dollars.

Terry Kiser's stunt double suffered a few broken ribs during filming, most in the scene in which Bernie is dragged around the surface of the ocean, bumping into metal floating obstacles.

ONE SENTENCE REVIEW: The premise was well known to me – the film was not – it is an odd comedy but I’m a die-hard Andrew McCarthy fan so to be honest it’s just a great watch for his performance in my opinion.
